You can explore the «VISAVIS» Human Rights Trail with a group of friends, your family or your school class. It doesn't matter whether you are travelling from far away or live just around the corner. If you are travelling alone, you can of course also complete most of the challenges and puzzles - or you can ask people around you if they would like to take part in a challenge.
We recommend a visit to school classes of lower and higher secondary level (pupils aged between approx. 12 and 19) and families with children aged 10 and over, as well as all interested persons.
- Note for families and groups of friends: The texts («guest contributions») in the accompanying booklet vary in complexity. You can read the guest contributions during your visit to the Human Rights Trail. However, you can also focus on the playful activities for each post with your fellow travellers and read the texts at a later date - as bedtime reading, at the table in your shared flat or elsewhere.
- Note for school classes: The texts («guest contributions») in the accompanying booklet vary in complexity. The educational material accompanying the Human Rights Trail (available in German and French) offers two options for visits with school classes. Depending on the level, age and language skills of the pupils, teachers can choose one or the other variant.
The «VISAVIS» Human Rights Trail is available in German, French and English. An accompanying educational dossier in German and French is available for visits with school classes.
Yes, there are no costs involved to visit the «VISAVIS» Human Rights Trail.
Yes, the accompanying booklet is necessary to explore the Human Rights Trail. In the accompanying booklet you will find playful activities and a text («guest contribution») for each stopping point. The activities and texts will help you to engage with certain human rights, see things in a new light and find out what human rights have to do with our everyday life.
- Print version: You can find the printed booklet at Interlaken Youth Hostel, in the Bödeli Library or on order from Amnesty International Switzerland. We recommend the printed version of the booklet: it's perfect for writing in, drawing, tearing out and making telescopes.
- Online version: At each post you will find a QR code that will take you to the accompanying booklet. This is perfect for those who want to spontaneously delve into the Human Rights Trail. However, many of the playful tasks may be better completed with the printed booklet.
You decide where to start, which route to take and how many stopping points you visit.
For a small insight into human rights, you might only need to explore one or two posts. You will need a maximum of 15 minutes per post. If you want to delve deeper with your group, you can easily spend 60-90 minutes.
We recommend that school classes plan around 90 minutes for their visit (see educational material, available in German and French).
You can start and end the «VISAVIS» Human Rights Trail at any stopping point. To start, read the preface «Let's get going» on pages 4-5 in the accompanying booklet and at the end the text «The path is within me» on pages 94-95.
We recommend that school classes start at the «Railway station» stopping point. It is located right next to Interlaken Ost railway station (see educational material, available in German and French).
All stopping points on the «VISAVIS» Human Rights Trail are accessible by wheelchair. The panels are set at a height of approx. 1 meter: see example photo. All the content on the panels can also be found in the accompanying booklet.
We have made every effort to ensure that the content is easy to understand and accessible. A version of the Human Rights Trail in Plain Language or Easy Language has not yet been produced. Neither has a «read aloud» function been integrated so far.
